New Year – New Plan

New Year – New Plan

Happy New Year all.

So, with the flooding, electrical issues, boiler and frozen pipes causing us no end of headaches I’ve decided to look into alternatives for the hall.  We need a better way of heating the space, we need to ensure the pipes don’t freeze again, we need a better battery monitoring system and backup generator, we need to know where damp is creeping in, we need to know all sort of things which at the moment are almost all down to educated guesswork.  With that in mind, I’ve made a conscious decision to ‘engineer-the-s**t’ out of the hall this year, get on top of any maintenance and repairs which it needs and make sure the damage down over Christmas doesn’t happen again.

I’ll start the year with the plan and fill in the gaps as I learn what works well and what doesn’t and keep you informed along the way.  First things first though, we need to blast some heat in the place again without the radiators (which are all completely blown), get the cellar and rooms dry before we end up with mold spores so that’s job number one.  Job number two will be to get the battery bank back to full health as soon as possible so I’ve already invested in a second battery pulse charger to hopefully bring us back up to a healthy 24-25v across the system.

Once that comes back to life, I’ll have a look at the gas boiler to see if we still have the option of hot water.

Only then will I be able to look at the actual list of small maintenance jobs I had planned for this year.  Finishing off some tiling, fitting an extractor, guttering and giving the place a good tidy up.
