The Settle house

Our house hunt in the local area frankly isn’t going to plan and so, we’ve decided to expand our search area to the surrounding villages near to Keasden.  If we were lucky, we’d find that hidden gem in need of some tender loving care a complete rebuild project, a little like Temperance Hall but on a grander scale.

In the time since we bought the Temperance Hall though, the local area has seen an surge in demand with everyone from lands end to John O’Groats looking for that ideal remote working location, away from the crowds, hassle and confined spaces.  Keasden ticked a lot of boxes for us when we first started looking for a bolt hole in the countryside so it comes as no surprise that the rest of the country has been quick to see the appeal.

Unfortunately for us, that also means that it isn’t long before we’re priced out of the market with properties which we could have comfortably, albeit ambitiously have taken on now several hundreds of thousands of pounds out of reach.  Reaching out into the local community proved more difficult than we had first thought but on the weekends where I’m not wrestling with the plumbing or swearing at the solar invertor, I’m been flyer-ing the neighbours, striking up conversations with local farmers who always have their ears to the ground and using social media, land registry and friends to try and find that ideal property.

Which brings us to this week which finds us placing a close-to asking price offer on a house in Settle.  It needs more work than we had originally imagined for an average sized house in this price bracket but the large workshop, loft room and views over towards Ingleborough (just about) are enough to get us a little excited.

It’s just under 10 mins from the Temperance Hall and the A65 and A59 makes it a commutable, if slightly more tiring distance from both of our employers.

So, now we wait..
